I think of myself as an artist rather than a woman artist. And then I see what I’m actually doing, my obsessions, my preoccupations, and the way I explore them, and even the way I title them and I think, “Fuck. It’s actually really important”. I suppose women still have to work harder to be taken seriously. But I don’t think it necessarily has to be harder.

Jared: I was in South Africa. I took the guys hiking and uh, and at some point I knew something went wrong when there was no more trail and the full moon's out, thank God.
Matt: And I'm losing my cool. I'm freaking the fuck out.
Jared: I did finally see a path.
Tomo: It was like all of a sudden we were like in a whole different place. everything was easy and was, like, the light was brighter.
Jared: We got on this trail and we came around the mountain and the full moon peeked out. There were literally thousands of fireflies. It was like magic. It was like something I had never seen. And we talked about this, like, without great struggle there isn't great reward. And I think it's a great metaphor, that story is a great, you know, analogy or parable for the making of [A Beautiful Lie], which has been a lot, a lot, a lot of hard work and a lot of struggle and challenge and great reward.
